Mrs Dolma – Rajpur, India

Mrs Dolma – 1928
Rajpur, India

Mrs Tashi Dolma was born in Dhargye Ling, Tibet, in 1928 but fled to India upon the occupation of her homeland by the Chinese government. Upon settling, she worked as a road labourer, which a lot of Tibetans-in-exile did then to earn a little income to keep themselves afloat.

After moving on from road work, Mrs Tashi moved to a Tibetan settlement in Karnataka, southern India, and married her husband in 1979. Her main source of income here was maize farming but due to an untreated eye infection, she was left unable to work after some years. Mr Gyurmey has also recently passed on and with no children to help support her, Mrs Tashi now resides in a care home in Rajpur, Uttarakhand.
