Update from Sermey Thoesam monastic school in Bylakuppe and Lo Garfuk monastic school in Pokhara

In Tibet, the practice of Tibetan Buddhism is restricted and only Mandarin is used for teaching in secondary schools. Tibetans are increasingly concerned about the impact this is having on their language and culture. Over the years, thousands of children have made the treacherous journey across the Himalayas to India and Nepal, where they can be taught in Tibetan and learn about their culture and traditions.

Thanks to you, students at Sermey Thoesam monastic school in Bylakuppe (above), and Lo Garfuk monastic school in Pokhara (below), are receiving a Tibetan education, which includes standard curriculum lessons as well as their Buddhist training.

Your donations have supported teachers’ salaries at both schools, as well as nutritional support over winter for the little monks at Lo Garfuk. Most of the students at Lo Garfuk come from families who struggle to provide for them, so the education, accommodation, food and healthcare provided at the school is life-changing.

Thank you for ensuring the Tibetan language, as well as ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture and traditions, are preserved.
