India diary: Meeting a mystic at Chushi Gangdruk old people’s home in ClementTown

Philippa Carrick CEO: “It was a great privilege to visit Wangdak Tashi’s room. A freedom fighter, who was arrested during the 1959 uprising and sentenced to life. However, after eight years, he managed to escape and ended up in Ladakh as a road labourer. He then became a mystic to honour his parents who were killed by Chinese forces. He wanted to remember and do daily prayers for them. He continues to do these and conducts services for those that ask. He uses our stipend for offering butter lamps to all the sentient beings, and to buy some food and milk himself. He gets around on his specially adapted three wheeler.”
