Community sponsorship makes a difference
We are delighted to report that through our sponsorship program, a community grant has been provided to a Tibetan monastery in Pokhara, Nepal, through which student monks have been provided with new winter jackets.
With many of the students coming from remote Himalayan villages and facing harsh winter conditions, warm clothing is a crucial necessity. The warm jackets will ensure 135 students at the monastic school can now comfortably attend early morning classes and focus on their studies without being distracted by the cold.

Jamyang, the school secretary, said: “These jackets significantly enhance our students’ well-being, helping them stay healthy and focused on their studies despite the challenging winter temperatures.”
The grant also provided new books for the students which will further support their education and assist with their exams. These new resources come at a crucial time as the monastery school prepares its senior students for the Nepal government board exams—a first for the institution.
Jamyang commented that: “It is both an exciting and challenging milestone, and our students are working hard in preparation.”

Tibet Relief Fund provides community grants to three sponsorship institutes including a care home for Tibetan elders, a school for Tibetan students and a monastic school for Tibetan monks.
Over a two year period, a £10,700 grant generously provided by the Dharmakaya Trust will be allocated to these institutions in the form of community grants. This funding will support Tibetan communities in exile and reinforce our existing community sponsorship scheme.
