The impact Shatsa is having on early literacy in Ladakh

Since 2021 Tibet Relief Fund has supported Shatsa, a grassroots organization in the remote northern region of Ladakh, India. In this rural area it is hard for families to access reading materials in Tibetan. Children need a wide variety of books available from an early age to be confident readers. Shatsa aims to get Tibetan children in Ladakh into the habit of reading a wide variety of materials, strengthening their academic progress and at the same time preserving the Tibetan language.

During the last year Shatsa’s Library Space project has had a significant impact on the community in Ladakh, particularly children and adults, fostering a love for reading and literacy through various engaging programs and activities. The library space has seen substantial foot traffic, with over 2,000 visitors benefiting from its resources and programs.

The library’s growing collection of books and the books on wheel project ensured access to books for over 200 children enhancing their literacy, cultural understanding, and creativity.

Thanks to your donations we are able to support projects like this.
