In 2024, Tibet Relief Fund partnered with Volunteer Corps Nepal to launch the Sustainable Livelihood Project in the Himalaya, bringing vital support to the remote Solududhkunda Municipality in Nepal’s Solukhumbu region. This initiative, funded by a one-off grant, aimed to improve the lives of vulnerable communities, including Tibetan monks and families, through sustainable agriculture, education, and livelihood opportunities. See the tangible impact of these efforts and hear directly from programme participants in our accompanying video.
The project addressed immediate needs with food relief for 82 households affected by COVID-19, ensuring sustenance for up to two months. Subsequently, it shifted focus to long-term sustainability, providing 378 programme participants with agricultural training and resources. Farmers received comprehensive training on seeding, cropping, and marketing, empowering them to enhance their agricultural practices.
To promote year-round cultivation, the project distributed high-yield vegetable seeds, organic fertilizers, and bamboo tunnels to commercial farmers, including members of the Tibetan community. A significant achievement was the installation of a high-tech steel tunnel at a local monastery, enabling the sustainable cultivation of diverse vegetables and directly benefiting 370 individuals.
Education was also a priority, with 255 children at Shree Sagarmatha Secondary School receiving essential educational supplies and sports equipment. Hygiene kits were provided to girls, ensuring their comfort and dignity.

Despite challenges such as remote accessibility and logistical hurdles, the project successfully implemented its objectives, empowering communities and fostering self-reliance. Looking ahead, we will seek to expand these initiatives, deepen community involvement, and build strong, lasting relationships that will help communities in remote Himalayan regions. This project is a testament to the incredible impact that thoughtful support can have—helping families build sustainable livelihoods and ensuring a brighter future for some of the most vulnerable communities.
This project was made possible by generous donations from our dedicated supporters and the Sustainable Future Foundation. Thank you.
