We are in contact with Sonam Sangpo, a Tibetan living in Nepal. Sonam has just returned home from the remote village of Marbang in Gorkha district, where he travelled with the Nepalese army to help with food distribution. Today (28/04/2015), eight helicopters did three to four rounds each from Gorkha airport to the village.
Sonam reported that only about 10 per cent of the houses in Marbang are still standing – the rest have been flattened. He couldn’t see many people around. Those who came to get the food supplies were desperate – almost snatching the packets of food. Dozens of patients were brought back with them in the helicopters. Their legs and arms were not like human limbs, very skinny and emaciated – almost like goats. Sonam was very disturbed to see how vulnerable these people in the remote village were, even before the earthquake.
