India diary part 5: Delhi – meeting up with Empowering the Vision and Tibetan Cancer Society

Philippa Carrick CEO: “It was with great relief to return to Delhi, despite being met with rain and no taxi at 11:00 at night. After much wrangling, we did manage to make it to our hotels! Sunday was a catch-up day. On Monday, with huge excitement, we headed to Empowering the Vision’s new community hub, Sontsa (seed). The transformation from the chaos of construction was transformational! It now provides a bright, smart, welcoming space with relaxed seating, co-working space that can be used for a small fee, and adaptable tables that can be used individually or together for meetings. It was great to catch up with all the team in person and welcome the new Director Kunsang Tsephel, who had been on post for just about a week. They have already started organising events on Fridays and every alternate Wednesdays where the local Tibetan youth could get together. Whilst there we managed a G-meet with our team in the UK, which was enjoyed by all.”

“Just above the Hub, is Tibetan Cancer Society’s Community Kitchen and Compassion Home, along with the Society’s Director, Tsultrim’s office. We joined Tsultrim and his staff for lunch, which was very delicious. However, we were disappointed there were no other people dropping in to have lunch. The rooms in the Compassion Home were spacious and occupied by individuals receiving treatment for cancer in Delhi. The Community Kitchen provides free meals to these patients.”
